There are several relevant factors to consider when choosing an online dating site. The important thing to remember, however, is that most online dating sites offer some kind of free trial period before making any kind of long-term financial commitment. So, while it's a good idea to think about the following things when choosing which online dating site is right for you, once you decide which site you'd like to try you are in no way locked in and can experiment with several. While it's not worth worrying about which site has the absolute most number of members, you may want to avoid some of the less well known online dating sites due to small membership. This is particularly true if you live in a more rural area with a lower population. You may only be looking to meet your one true love on the online dating site, but the more candidates you start with the better your odds!

Depending upon your online dating goal, from long-term relationships and marriage to casual dating (and anywhere in between), you want to select a site which has like-minded people on it. Many online dating sites cater to people looking for both short and long term relationships. If the site gives a free trial, I would recommend taking advantage of it to browse through members to see if they're looking for the same things you are.
Sophistication of the online dating site Search function:
While some online dating sites take the elaborateness of their search function to an unnecessary level (I think), it is important that the site have an advanced enough search system that you are able to find dating candidates who you might actually want to date! Sign up for the free trial and do some dating profile searches and see if the search returns people who have some of the traits you're looking for.
Additional features:
Some online dating sites offer additional features like chat rooms, room to write your own blog, and dating articles. These features are basically as important as you make them. If you're not interested in chat rooms, then ignore them. If you're at all interested, I would recommend writing some kind of blog if the online dating site offers one as it will give the other potential candidates a way to find out something real they have in common with you (from a similar writing style, to shared interests, to a compatible sense of humor)!
