Dating Again Following the Divorce or the loss of a significant other

It can take a long time after a divorce or losing a spouse or significant other to feel ready to date again. Obviously the time you need will vary from person to person and depending on the individual situation. Once you do get to the point where you think you might be ready to date again, it's generally best to take things slowly, checking out the dating scene and seeing what's out there. Online dating sites can be just the place to start.

The safest way to get back into the dating game without jumping in with both feet is to just look around and see what kind of dates are available. Start a trial account at one or more of the top online dating sites and just browse. You don't even have to write your own online dating site profile. Just check out what other online dating site users have said about themselves. Eventually you may feel inspired and ready to take the next step and actually write your own online dating site profile or respond to someone else's.

Once you start engaging with other online dating site users, you could still takes things slow by having purely online relationships, either through the online dating site or by email. Do a bit of email flirting; get to know a few different dates and let yourself connect with other people. Don't feel pressured to limit yourself to starting a relationship with only one online dating site user. And certainly don't allow any of those same online dating site users to push you to talk about subjects you're not comfortable with yet or to meet up with them in person. You can take the step past the online dating site when you decide you're ready.

Then, when you want to take the next step and move from the online dating site to meeting up in person, that doesn't mean you have to commit to any sort of serious or long-term relationship. Go out on a couple of dates and have a good time. Enjoy dinner date conversation and watching a movie or two. If a special person does come along, you'll be glad you didn't rush things too much. Eventually you will be emotionally ready for a serious relationship once more.
