So you met on an online dating site or perhaps through a friend, you've been on a couple of dates and you seem to be getting along, but then you find out it will soon be his/her birthday, or Christmas, Hannukah, Valentine's Day, or some other reason you will need to purchase a gift for the person you've just started dating. Finding a gift which isn't too personal or too generic, too expensive or too cheap, is not easy! Upon reflection, here are a few non-threatening gift suggestions. For her: It may be cliche, but I don't think you can go wrong with flowers or nice chocolates (Godiva or something equally nice). Depending on the age and personality of your date, you might buy a unique stuffed animal. You could also purchase theater tickets, certificate for tandem kayak rental, or for other activities which you could then do together! You could even give your date a board game destined to be played on your next date.
For him: Even if you're not totally sure yet what your date would like, I still believe it's thoughtful to give him a book you enjoyed reading. That will also give you something new to talk about once he reads it. You could satisfy his need for caffeine and present him with a coffee shop gift card to his place of choice. Or just agree to take him out to dinner at a restaurant of his choice.
Whatever you decide to get as a gift for your date, don't stress about it too much. He or she should appreciate the thought. And if they don't, there are plenty of fish out there and many good Online Dating sites!
