If you've been dating someone beyond an online dating site and the holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hannukah, etc.) are approaching, should you feel obligated to ask your date to go home for the holidays with you? Will your date likely say yes or will he/she wonder why you asked? These can be very tricky questions when you've just started dating and are still unsure quite how committed to each other you both are.

Have you talked about your families at all with your date? If you and your date haven't gotten to know each other well enough yet that the subject of sisters, brothers, and parents hasn't really come up, bringing your date home for the holidays is likely to be awkward. Your date doesn't need to know the nuances of each of your extended family relatives (crazy aunts and uncles and all that), but seeing family can be stressful and you don't want to expose a date to that unless you've already gotten fairly comfortable around each other.
Where would you and your date sleep? Would you and your date both feel comfortable staying together in the room you grew up in? What about the two of you staying in a hotel for the holidays together? These are things you should figure out before asking a date to go home for the holidays with you.
Would your family be okay with you bringing a date? It's important to consider how your family will feel and react to you bringing a date to the holiday festivities. If you think they'll be okay with it and happy for you, you should still think about possible problems. Will your old aunt ask when you're going to get married and have kids in front of your date? Is your mom going to drag out embarrassing baby pictures of you to your date's amusement or horror? Make sure you're prepared for all this before committing to bring your date home for the holidays with you!
