Online Dating Reviews and Advice
How to introduce someone you met on an online dating site
So you meet someone you like on your favorite online dating site and you like him/her enough to go on a date in person. How do you introduce them when you bump into a friend, coworker, Aunt Millie, or even your Mom? What will they say if they find out you used an online dating site?
First of all, the answer to these questions depends on each person's personality. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proactive about finding love and companionship by using an online dating site. Unfortunately some people still believe that online dating is embarrassing or wrong. On the upside, this antiquated view is becoming more and more obsolete as people realize that online dating sites are just the neighborhood social events of the twenty first century. But still, how do you introduce your online date?
Personally I would suggest telling the truth, that you found each other on an online dating site, right off the bat for a couple of reasons. The biggest one is simply the fact that using an online dating site is smart, effective, and shows that you're not going to passively wait for love to find you. Beyond that, if you lie about how you met your date now, you may end up regretting it later if your relationship progresses and you either need to keep lying or admit you lied to someone you care about. Neither option is a good one!
So what will happen when you tell your friend/coworker/relative that you found each other on an online dating site? Several outcomes are possible. The person could react nonchalantly since it's not a bad thing! He/she may even be impressed by your proactive go get 'em attitude toward love and relationships and ask which online dating site you used for their own sake!
On the other hand, yes, the person may react badly and look down on you for using an online dating site. This will more likely be the case with an older relative. But at least you will have told the truth and eventually he/she will come to realize that you're happy and you got there by using an online dating site.
Whether you choose to tell the truth or a little white lie is up to you. If you're content using an online dating site but aren't quite ready to tell the world, that's fine. As long as you're willing to take that step toward finding love, who cares what other ignorant people think? Love and let love!
