Think of your online dating profile like a resume - though you don't want to list any previous accomplishments, you do want to present yourself in the best possible light and sell yourself to other members of the online dating site community.
Talk about things you like to do as well as what you're looking for in a prospective date. Don't just discuss what you want, as that can make you look shallow and picky. At the same time, don't just talk about yourself or you'll come off as self-absorbed. You want to give a balanced description in your online dating site profile so someone can see if they're interested in you and make a guess as to whether you'd be interested in them.
Pictures: You should always post a picture in your dating site profile. Not having a photo of yourself is the surest way to get no interest. Think about yourself as you check out other people's dating profile listings. You almost certainly ignore or discredit profiles with no image, so why would people pay attention to your posting with no image? You absolutely need a photo to have a successful experience with online dating sites.
The advantage of being totally honest in your online dating site profile is that the people who are interested in you will be genuinely interested in you. If you pretend you're a rich doctor when you're not, the other person will find out eventually. Frequently that will happen right away and they'll re-evaluate their interest.
Everyone's going to exaggerate some. By stretching the truth a bit, you can attract more interest and replies than by sticking to the straight and narrow. People assume everyone else is exaggerating somewhat anyway, so as long as you clear up the information you used as bait, you should be fine.
Whichever tactic you take is up to you. At the end of the day, you're either going to generate fewer leads which are more likely to pan out if you're honest, or more total leads of which a lower percentage will lead to dates if you fib. One area that's safe - women, men are terrible at gauging weight but have strong opinions on it. Shaving a few pounds is usually safe and successful.
